Another good place to watch the tango in Caminito - Buenos Aires
La Barrica: Another good place to watch the tango in Caminito

As I mentioned in the Gitanos restaurant review, go to Caminito more than once so you can sample the different tango shows. La Barrica has decent food, average prices and a fun atmosphere.

Good place to watch tango in Caminito - Buenos Aires
Gitanos: Good place to watch tango in Caminito Gitanos Review

If you go to Caminito, bring an empty stomach so you can have lunch at Gitanos. They have live music and dancers performing the tango. Don't be surprised if they ask you to dance with them for a song or two. The food is decent, but eating here or any other restaurant in Caminito is just an excuse to sit and enjoy the show.

There are a couple of worthwhile restaurants that have tango shows. I suggest going there more than once so you can experience a couple of them.

Estilo Campo: Attention, meat lovers! Estilo Campo Review

Compared to other steakhouses/parrillas in Buenos Aires, Estilo Campo is not THE best. But if it was in another city or country, it definitely would get consideration. The restaurant's dedication to beef is evident even before you are inside. Through glass windows you can see several slabs of beef hanging on hooks. If someone in your group is a vegetarian, you might want to go somewhere else. The restaurant is very clean and has a rustic motif. The waiters are dressed in gaucho attire and work hard to please their customers. A very good dining experience.

Address: Alicia M. de Justo 1840. Puerto Madero.

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Estilo Campo is one of many restaurants in Puerto Madero, along the Rio Plata.

El Mirasol: Great steak in a swank restaurant El Mirasol Review

I heard about this steakhouse/parrilla from Frommer's. If you want to know why Argentina is so famous for its beef, come here with an empty stomach and indulge. Many business people come here, so you might have to make reservations. If not, you can wait at the bar for a table. You should also wear your best clothes, as almost everyone there is dressed up. Steaks do not come with anything, so if you want a baked potato or something else you will have to order it separately. El Mirasol has a very good wine selection as well. The wait staff is friendly and very helpful.

Like most things in Argentina, the prices are amazingly low for Americans and Western Europeans. A bottle of wine, a 12-ounce steak, a 24-ounce steak and two baked potatos cost $40!

Address: Posadas 1032

Comparison: more expensive than average

Price: US$11-20

Solo Empanadas: Argentina's version of fast food

Buenos Aires has many great restaurants, but sometimes all you want is a snack. Thankfully, there are several Solo Empanadas throughout the city. Order as many of the meat pastries as you like and in a few minutes you will be treated to one of life's culinary delights. OK, that was an exaggeration. But compared to other fast food options, they are very good.

Comparison: least expensive

Directions: Finding a Solo Empanadas in Buenos Aires is as hard as finding a McDonald's in New York City.
