While most of the cities in the US tend to look and feel alike, San Francisco is very distinctive. What one finds here is not only the charm of rolling hills and cable cars but also the easy-going lifestyle. It is said that San Franciscans are not as fashionable as folks in Manhattan or Los Angeles but locals here find fashion less of a priority; they place more interest in the city's natural beauty, art and culture, progressiveness, and multiculturalism. San Francisco has gone through ups & downs but has seen many achievements in her days. The city survived two major earthquakes (1906 and 1989), and Harvey Milk paved the gay rights movement as the first openly gay elected official of any city. Geographically, San Francisco has the prime spot. One hour north is the wine country; along the peninsula is Silicon Valley which leads the way in technology; and two prestigious universities are located nearby - UC Berkeley and Stanford University. |
