Pancevo is a town in the south Banat.It lies on the left bank of the Tamish, four km from the river Danube. Today, Pancevo has over 100. 000 residents. It is a strong industrial town, the petrochemical center is extremely developed (fertilizer factory, oil refinery, industry of plastic materials and cosmetic products etc). There is an airplane industry, the glass industry, light industry, beer industry etc.

Pancevo with its close surroundings has saved the material life traces throughout the whole Pre-history, Antique period and early Middle Age.We can find traces of Starcevo’s culture, older and younger Vinca’s culture, Vucedol’s and Kostolac’s group of eneolite, Vatikan’s, Pancevo-Omoljica’s group and Dubrovnik’s group of period. All these traces represent the material proof of Pre-history.Traces of Roman culture are very rare in Pancevo and they are only mentioned at Weifert’s brewery. The period of Roman domination is presented by numerousremains of Sarmantic groups.in this theritory we can also find some traces of people’s migrations and early middle Age.

Pancevo has one of the oldest museums in Voivodina (1923).Beside that, there is a tradition of choric singing which is 150 years long. Pancevo’s gallery of Modern Art is known by its BIENALE of Yugoslavian sculpture . then there is a gallery of religious art in SPCO, then there are modernized halls of Cultural Centre and Army Centre.
