Holiday of a lifetime in New York

What Dreams Are Made Of

The Wonderful Skyline of NY
A 1 week holiday was planned to this great city in March 05. Not only were me and my girlfriend going to the vibrant sightseeing city of New York but it was our first ever holiday away together. We didnt need to do much research as we knew so many of the sights from watching films and in books so it was a case of finding the right hotel at the right price. We came accross The New York Helmsley and booked a weeks holiday. The total cost was only £550 each including hotel and flights.

Once we arrived the city hits you full on and all the buildings were lit up and the whole place was buzzing, we felt tired but the buzz of NY kept us going. From the minute we arrived till the minute we left we loved every second of NY and cant wait to go back.

New York is an amazing non stop city with so much on offer, wish we could have stayed for longer
I was expecting to see Clark Kent!!!

10 Magical Moments

Below is a brief list of our 10 memories that will last a lifetime

1. Waking up with my girlfriend on our first night and looking out our window to see the Empire State Building in all its glory,

2. The whole feel of the place when walking around and feeling so small compared to all the great buildings towering above us

3. When i first hailed a yellow New York cab, it felt great

4. Going to Central Park, it was so cold yet the ground was covered in snow. It felt as though me ang my girlfriend were the only people in the park, it had such a magical feel to it, although there were still guys out jogging! Crazy!!

5. A trip to the top of The Empire State Building was a must, the views are amazing and you do literally feel on top of the world, its just a shame it was a little foggy when we went.

6. The island tour day and night was a wonderful experience. Although the night time trip was freezing we were warmed up by seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time, all lit up and looking spectacular. It was also memorable seeing the skyline from a boat at night, all the lights twinkling.
The dat cruise was nice and covered the whole island, a little warmer and very impressive

7. Ground Zero was very humbling if thats the right word and it made you realise the devestation caused by the awful attacks. That was a strange experience yet the Twin Towers must have looked enormous pre 9/11/
hopefuly we can go back when the freedom tower is completed

8. F.A.O Schwartz. What a fabulous toy store. We were in there for hours and it was great to see the giant piano used in the film Big. We spent a small fortune in there!!

9. The New York Sound! its strange but NY has a distinctive sound, waking up to hearing horns beeping and distant sirens was a joy to listen to. Just like the movies

10. This one was a bit special in a silly way. I loved the film Superman as a kid and always remember the big globe in the Daily Planet building (The Daily News in real life) So when my girlfriend said the building was next door to our hotel we went in and there it was, the big globe from Superman the movie. All those childhood memories!!!!

These are only a few great memories, along with seeing the vibrant sights of Time Square and Macy's, Rockafella Centre, Grand Central etc etc

NY, a real life movie set!
The lovely Central Park

If Only!

New York was a near perfect holiday except for a few little things, I wish it would have been a little warmer and not foggy on the day we decided to go up the Empire State Building. It would have been nice to have spent more time on the nightlife and eating out at the nice restaurants on offer, but we were so tired from sightseeing that we were back in the hotel for 7pm. It was a shame we run out of money as there is so much more we wanted to do and buy.

Most of the negatives were nothing to do with NY but us as a couple adapting to life there,

Cant wait to go back
