Never saw Lady Liberty all the time I lived here and Ellis Island as it is today did not exist in those years. So, here I am - taking in the sight of them both as my grandparents saw them when they entered New York Harbor bound for those streets paved with gold.
Well, the pulse still quickens as I enter Lincoln Tunnel - just trying to catch up to the pulse of the city itself.
Sure seems like fewer cabs to me - nope, just more people. And I thought Rome was a melting pot - hey, there's a woman wearing a burka - right here in 'ol New York!
Detail on Ellis Island will be on the VT Ellis Island, New Jersey pages - yep, Ellis Island is in New Jersey - news to me too!
Talk about a love-hate relationship!! Being back now I remember why I loved it so - I also remember why I was happy to leave as I watch a rat (no - not a mouse - a RAT) cross the entire crowded front bar floor of Lindy's - right there, in front of God and everyone - maybe he was just evicted from the downtown Taco and KFC! Yep - it is all dirtier than I ever remember........... |
