Carnival in Como Festivals/Holidays/Celebratios Review

If you spend any time at all in Italy, you will soon see that Italy and her people know how to throw a party - like none other I have seen or heard about. And, you did not have to be in the Venice venue of choice for Carnival. Conffetti from last night's grown-ups party covered the piazzas, streets, sidewalks and even the entrance of my building -- I should not have been surprised to see it at my front door. These children were delighted that Mom permitted me to take their photo (and promised to e-mail this page to Mom). Hope you see all the photos here - the kids were delightful.

Christmas play in Piazza Duomo Festivals/Holidays/Celebratios Review

A significant number of local residents participated in the Nativity production staged for the community in front of the Duomo today, December 9th, 2007. A very professional enactment of the Nativity featured a choir, overhead lighting, excellent sound, and even a few sheep and a huge camel in addition to the principle actors and numerous children. Confetti and rice Festivals/Holidays/Celebratios Review

OK - you don't expect the bride and groom to clean up the rice, do you? This was a wedding at lovely San Fidele. I remember reading something years ago about rice being banned outside the churchs - some liability issue re insurance! Understandable - seems we sue anybody for anything...........

This little girl was taking her job quite seriously. The entire scene was quite charming and even a local policeman standing beside me wanted to see the photo I took.
The police woman directing traffic there at Piazza Vittoria had a very busy day today but took time for this little girl. Only in Italia!!

Where the locals like to jog

Venture to Parco Olmo - behind the lakeside of Villa Olmo - and you will see a consistent stream of local Como residents running the paths of the the Park - even more so than at lakeside. Up here in the park they are not dodging bicycles or tourists.

Civility and manners are evident in Como

Even the signs here are worded in such a gracious and mannerly way - we see "Rispetta il Verde" - "Respect the Green" - instead of, perhaps, "Keep Off the Grass"...........

Nope - no fire here - this dragon spouts the best tasting water you will every find - even better than the public drinking fountains in bella Roma! He's right behind Piazza Cavour by the Lake.
