It is said that when you retire, live in Pasir Mas. That is just what I did upon my retirement beginning from 1st January 2006.
Pasir Mas literally means 'the golden sand'. Since there is no gold found here, the abundant amount of sand being mined or extracted from the Kelantan River must have some sembalnce of gold for the town to be named such.
It is one of the 10 districts in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia. Being one of the district bordering Thailand, not only it has influence the state in terms of traditions and culture but also in its culinary pleasures.
With a land area of 577.5 sq km, Pasir Mas has a population of 162,000 the majority of which are The Malays (156,000) followed by 3,300 Chienese, 100 Indians and the rest are comprised of others such as The Aborigines and Thais.
Agriculture is the main economic activity in the district. The main activities are planting paddy, tapping rubber, planting of oil palm or tending to fruit orchards. The rest are involved in small industrries and a small portion work in government or private sectors.
- Pros:Cost of living is very cheap.
- Cons:No accomodation in town.
- In a nutshell:The best place for retirement.
