After many trips to Vegas overpaying for rooms to stay at places like MGM or Venetian, etc. I finally realized how little time I actually spend in my room. You don't go to Vegas to be in the room. The room is really for a few hours of sleep and a shower. Location is key, but actual hotel and room amenities are not worth overpaying for. You can stay at the Flamingo for a reasonable price and walk to Caesars, Ballys, Venetian, etc. within a matter of minutes. Save your money for the table games and don't go top tier when booking a room in Vegas unless you think you really will be taking advantage of the facilities.
