Life in The Montachusett Region

by MIdgiemoon - last update: Apr 27, 2008

Fitchburg, MA

A view from Northern Iowa....
Fitchburg is a classic New England Paper town with the Nashua River and many old mills are still standing. It is in Northern Central Mass., about 40 miles NW of Boston. Fitchburg State College is located downtown, and brings lots of art and culture to what can sometimes be a dreary town. The MBTA has a train station which can have you in Boston in an hour, which is a lot better than driving there! Fitchburg is home to Coggshall Park, which is a beautiful oasis in the city. It has hiking trails, picnic ares, and a pond with swans and geese. It is only a 5 minute walk from my home.I grew up near the Connecticut border, and have lived here in Fitchburg for 13 years.

April 2008 update:It has been a long time since I have updated this.... I have been traveling for my work, with several trips to Toronto this year already. On May 2, I will be traveling to Shanghai China for a week for work. I am traveling alone, and have been reading the tips on VT. I won't have a lot of time, so these look to be quite helpful. I will post pictures as I can. I am also happy riding my bike, having recovered from shoulder surgery last November to remove a bone spur. I am feeling much btter! Cheers!!

April 2007 Update Spring is supposed to be here by now, but we are expecting snow just before easter. I traveled to Las Vegas last month for some family business, and was able to see the implosion of the old Stardust hotel from my window. The explosion woke me up from a sound sleep! I have also been out riding my bike as much as possible in the past few weeks. I will be traveling to Iowa in July to ride in the RAGBRAI (www.ragbrai.com) with 9 friends. It is a week long ride across the state, west to east. Being an East coast kind of girl, i am looking forward to seeing this part of the country, and meeting all of the people along the way. If you're riding in it, let me know! That's it for now....January 2007 UpdateThanks for all of the birthday wishes! I am off to Arizona this weekend. Stay tuned for pictures in a week or so...Cheers! 2 Books I can recommend for those plane rides: "A Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin, a historical viw of Abraham Lincoln's presidency and his management style. "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova is a thrilling romp through Eastern Europe and the middle east in a quest to uncover th mysteries of Dracula. It is a great read, and plants all kinds of ideas for future trips! Happy Travels, and thanks for reading....
