London Transportation

Transportation: Dutch Flyer, Rail/Ferry from London to Amsterdam
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Ship/Boat
Getting TO/AROUND: If you're looking for an inexpensive way to travel between London and Amsterdam try the Stenna Line Ferry from Harwich, UK to Hook of Holland, Netherlands. In just over 3hours from port to port you'll be across the channel. The ferry holds about 1500 persons, has a theater to see movies, restaurants, duty free (over priced) casino, and a business center. There was a special for GBP25 one way which included the rail portion from Liverpool station to Harwich, Ferry to Holland, then the train into Amsterdam; you can't beat that price even with Europe's discounted airlines.

The tube: The Tube and the Oyster Card
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: While riding the tube in London, purchase an Oyster Card which you can load up with money and quickly get to where you are going and avoid the ticket machine lines. Just tap the card on the yellow circle at the entrance gate to the Tube and walk through, it's really easy and you don't have to worry about carrying cash on you to buy a ticket.

Transportation: Eurostar from St. Pancras station
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: I have flown a couple time with RyanAir intra Europe and quite frankly I've had enough! The nickel and diming, the pushing and shoving, the last minute forking out of cash because my checked luggage is a few kilos over has me saying "NEVER AGAIN".

This time I needed to get to Brussels and bought roundtrip tickets on the Eurostar from St. Pancras station to Brussels. Checkin is only 30 minutes prior to departure, vs 1.5+ at the larger airports, you are assigned a car and seat that is included in the price of your ticket (Unlike RyanAir and EasyJet) Seating is adequate, the staff were professional, you are not bombarded with rude advertisements regarding bus service into town because Eurostar already goes into the center of town. In short, Eurostar is the humane way to travel!

Yes, love the ferry. I usually take P&O from Europoort.
