Mexico City was an amazing unexpected surprise. I first visited the city in 1997 and went again in March 2005. On my first visit, I knew very little about it, but found a metropolis that rivalled many European capitals in architectural heritage and history. It is a City that could be equated with Istanbul and Cairo where multiple civilisations dominate different sections of the city making them many cities in one. In Mexico City's case these are: Aztec, Spanish Colonial Catholic, Republican Mexican and modern world.
