"Whistler/Blackcomb Ski Resort" Whistler by MM212

Located in British Columbia, two hours north of Vancouver, the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort is by far the largest in North America. It consists of two adjacent mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, linked by a gondola at the base and another one at the upper elevation, called Peak 2 Peak, with spectacular views. The deep u-shaped valleys between majestic peaks in this area of British Columbia make Whistler also one of the most scenic ski resorts on the continent (and the closest to a European/Alpine ski experience). Although the surrounding peaks only rise to 2440 metres, the northerly latitude, and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, both ensure plenty of snow for skiing during the colder half of the year. The base of the resort, however, is only at 675 metres, so rain is not uncommon in Whistler Village, but it all turns to snow on the slopes.

The Olympics took place here in 2010 and with it came large developments that ensured plenty of reasonably priced accommodation in town, along with plenty of après-ski activities. It did commercialise the resort a tad too much and made it more crowded, but this is more than compensated for by the top quality skiing experience on the two mountains.
