Geneva is an extremely scenic city with a long history and strong traditions. It seems to have the odd combination of Gallic joie de vivre with Germanic Effizienz (efficiency). Les genevois are very friendly and their city is clean, safe and civilised. A trip to Geneva is always pleasant, however, the city tends to be rather sleepy compared to some of Europe's large cities and quite expensive. One could visit the city in a day or two and then head to other locations around Switzerland. Geneva often serves as the gateway to ski resorts in the Alps, or to the rest of Switzerland. |
When I was four years old, I spent two months in Geneva with my family while my father was on an extended business trip. I have vivid memories of the trip and remember falling in love with the city, its lake and views of the snowcapped Alps. I returned to Geneva again when I was six years old for two weeks in the summer.
Then after more than a twenty-year absence, I made it back in April 2001 for a quick business trip. Since then, I have returned twice, in August 2005 and in October 2008, both times also on business. Each of the last three trips was not much longer than 24 hours. The pictures on this page are all from the most recent trip. |
