  • A tiny island, Isola Tiberina, in the Tiber River is wedged between Trastevere and the Ghetto part of Rome. The island has been inhabited since ancient times and contained the Temple of Aesculapius. The 10th church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola was built on the ruins of this temple. Connecting the Ghetto with the island is Rome's oldest bridge that is still in use, Ponte Fabricio. It was built in 62 BC and is now only a footbridge.

  • One of the best preserved ancient structures in Rome, the Pyramid of Caius Cestius was built in 12 BC as a tomb for Caius Cestius. It was modelled after pyramid tombs in Nubia, which was attacked by Rome in 23 BC, and its construction came at a time when the influence of Ancient Egyptian culture on Rome had reached its peak. The pyramid was later incorporated into the Aurelian Wall, now at Piazza di Porta San Paolo, south of the centre of Rome

Yes, you are right! I can't even squeeze in to take a snap of this famous sculptor! I couldn't even throw a coin! (Oh well, I just hope to come back someday to throw a coin!)

Pleased to see that you share my enthusiasm for the two Museo Nazionale Romano. The best of antique art and no queuing! Excellent reviews of various churches.
