  • Very pleasant stay. Highly recommended.

Unique Qualities: Small, quiet and away from the crowds of tourists, but centrally located. Beautifully decorated rooms and reception. And it is reasonably priced compared to other high end hotels in Venice.

San Clemente Palace: A "Leading" Hotel on its own island!

  • Located on its own island, isola di San Clemente, this historic complex has been turned into one of Venice's best and most unique hotels. As a member of "The Leading Hotels of the World", San Clemente Palace Hotel provides luxury and comfort that make staying here rather unforgettable. The spacious hotel is more of a resort complex island than a simple hotel, equipped with a spa, tennis courts, gardens and first-rate restaurants. The island even has its own 12th century church, la Chiesa di San Clemente!

The ancient monastery in which it is housed once provided housing for Crusader forces travelling to the Levant. The structure has been extensively renovated and decorated with typical Venetian fabrics and furniture. Many of its large rooms have enviable views extending to the San Marco area in Venice. Yet all of this luxury comes at a relatively affordable price, far lower than one would expect from a 5-star hotel in Venice. The reason is that the hotel is detached from Venice itself, where one would typically want to stay, which initially made me hesitate to stay here. However, the isolation of the hotel was in fact most appreciated because it provided a haven away from the hordes of tourists invading Venice. Moreover, the hotel provides free shuttle service from the hotel to Piazza San Marco, which goes back and forth promptly every 20-minutes and completes the journey in 10-12 minutes. The boat ride was a nice and relaxing way to end a day of exhausting sightseeing followed by a big dinner!

I would definitely want to stay here on my next visit to Venice.

Wow, marvellous work, Momo :-)) You have amazing detail photos, especially the ones of Ca'd'Oro!! Do they allow photos inside some churches like Chiesa di S.M. dei Miracoli?

If I do Italy, I'm thinking of skipping Venice - but having second thoughts now...I think it will be sacrilege! Thanks for the tips - great coverage of sights.
