Vu's Bar: 51st floor views!

Located on the 51st floor of the Emirates Towers Jumeirah Hotel, Vu's Bar's name is not misleading! The fancy bar with a sloping glass ceiling offers incredible views over Dubai and its mega projects. The trendy and rich assemble here for cocktails along with Dubai's business men. Some choose to dine afterwards at the unreasonably expensive international (but hopefully exquisite) restaurant one floor below. Try to get there before the sun sets in order to enjoy the views. Otherwise, you'll have to accept the starry lights of the night views - though still impressive. Beware, drinks are quite expensive!

Buddha Bar: The Trendiest Spot in Dubai

The world famous Buddha Bar opened a branch in Dubai at the Grosvenor House Hotel in the Dubai Marina area. Just like the original Buddha Bar in Paris, the Dubai location is a bar/lounge and a dinner restaurant with a giant Buddha statue. The Dubai Buddha Bar is much larger than the original in Paris, but is true to the atmosphere with its distinctive music and pan Asian cuisine. This is definitely one of the best nightlife spots in Dubai.

1897 Bar: Trendy Lounge

1897 is an elegant lounge on the first floor of the Kempinski Hotel at Mall of the Emirates. Comfortable sofas at the front, and bar at the back, offer a nice location for groups or singles to drink or sample some of the small tapas on the menu. The bar gets crowded on weekends, but on other nights, tends to be good for a quiet drink. 1897 refers to the date of the founding of the Kempinski Hotel chain.

Grosvenor House Lobby: Elegant Lounge

I recommend going to the architecturally stunning lobby of the Grosvenor House Hotel for pre- or post-dinner drinks. While it is not a crowded bar scene by any means, it provides an elegant lounge setting for an aperitif. It is also a great place for people watching.

Shu?: Shisha and More

This fairly new restaurant/lounge/cafe on Jumeirah Beach Road, just opposite Jumeirah Beach Park, has become a trendy hangout. While it is officially a Lebanese restaurant open for lunch and dinner, its best feature is smoking shisha on the outdoor terrace and roof. The place is open unti 4am, so many people turn up after dinner for dessert and shisha until late in the evening. Definitely a fun spot. Shu? means "What?" in Lebanese Arabic.
