Dubai has got to be one of the 21st century's most amazing marvels. Rising from nothing within two decades, this tiny emirate managed to elevate itself to the ranks of the world's most envied destinations. Clever marketing is part responsible for the success, but if it weren't for well-designed and professionally-run mega projects, Dubai would not have survived this long. Indeed, everything is new, but Dubai has a lot to offer to tourists and residents alike.

Dubai's many skyscrapers are spread out around the city, many of which are still under construction. Whether one likes modern architecture or not, one cannot deny the originality of the designs.

I travel to Dubai a couple of times per year on business and have enjoyed every visit. If you are thinking of visiting Dubai from a land faraway, you may consider combining the trip with a stop elsewhere in the region. Dubai's airport offers excellent connections to practically anywhere around the world. Avoid the city from June until September, when it's just intolerably HOT.
