Tyre was my last day trip outside Beirut during my first visit to Lebanon in March 2005. Exhausted after a month of continuous travel across three continents, I was close to cancelling my trip to Tyre that very morning. Later that day, as I stood in the middle of the magnificent ancient ruins, I was so grateful to the gods that made me get there. The ancient ruins in Tyre cover an enormous area. You must be there to understand the magnitude of Tyre. |
| | Tyre was one of the most important ports in the eastern Mediterranean in ancient times. |
| | Remains of this ancient city can be seen in two impressive Romano-Byzantine archeological sites. Both areas have been declared as World Heritage Sites by the United Nations. |
