Obelisk for remembering WWII This is to commerate soldiers who had sacrificed their lives for WWII. Well, I guess all over the world, people are grieving in their own ways for this worldwide destruction due to power-seeking people. Is power so important when you cant even take it with you when you die? |
| | Santa Maria Del Flora The 1st Architect is Arnolfo di Cambio but in late 1500s, Bernardo Buontalenti managed to persuade Grand Duke Francesco to destroy the first facade and rebuilt a new one according to his design. I think it took about four generations to rebuild it. |
| | Piazza Della Signoria--Neptune Fountain I am trying direct translation of Piazza Della Signoria....A large open space of ladies??? At the side of Piazza Della Signoria is the neptune fountain. In the centre stood, a statue of the sea god ,Neptune. In the olden days, the mothers would bring her daughter who had reached marrying age here to show her what a naked man looked like. Perharps that is where the name comes from...just my deduction. |

wen_viaggio Mon Oct 16, 2006 16:00 UTC Hi Olivia, nice pictures you have there of Florence! I was there in 2002 and had a great time myself. I see that they have put up fences around the Neptune fountain! They shouldn't do that! | nicolaitan Tue May 30, 2006 02:45 UTC There are some VERY nice fotos in that travelogue of items not usually imaged for VT. Nice, thanks for sharing these. >~! |
