Gondolas: Gondolas

  • It is very expensive. One person is 100 Euros. If you go in a group, it may be cheaper. But if you had spend so much to fly there, sometimes you fall into the trap of "Since I may not be back, why dont I take a ride in it?" Going through bridges, scraping barely under it during high tides is a"scary" experience. The Gondolas are made with one side longer than the other so that it can tilt slightly to avoid scraping the bottom of the bridges. You can easily catch any man in a hat and striped shirts calling out for customers and they are "very united" in prices:)

  • You can just pop into any museum and enjoy the creativity of its people. I could not take any pictures in the place but the displays were really cool. The artists could make even bus tickets and gum wrappers looked like an art piece. There are many more interesting ones but I did not have the time to enjoy them.

  • A piazza bustling with activities. There were hawkers selling all sorts of souvenirs, people queueing up for entrance to museums and churches. It is the heart of Venice. Take a taxiboat from the train station. Take any that brings you to Saint Marco.

  • This is the symbolic seat of Venetian power which used to be the seat od Doge and State Magistratures. A gothic architecture that reveals the grandiose stratification of building and ornamental elements. Entrance is Euro 12.

  • This is the most famous Basilica in Venice. In it there is a gold altar piece and it is really fit for a king. The interior is generously decorated with gilded mosaics and treasures representing stories from the bible while the exterior are decorated in Byzantine style with basreliefs and columns. Entrance is free but you have to pay Euro 3 to see La Pala and Euro 3 to see il Tesoro and it is worth it. 9.30am - 5pm on weekdays and sat while 2pm to 4pm on sunday. You can also attend masses in a little chapel at its side.

  • Looking from above, the Grand Canal curves in a great “S” through the centre of the red tiled roofs of Venice, Italy. Till today, Canal Grande (Grand Canal) is the main channel that snakes through the 118 islands of Venice, joined by many little canals.

  • The Rialto Bridge's 24-foot arch was designed by Antonio da Ponte, was the only way to cross the Grand Canal on foot until the Accademia Bridge was built in 1854. Ponte di Rialto was built on 12 000 wooden pilings to support the bridge in 1591.

The bridge has two narrower side walkways and a central walkway leading between two rows of small shops that sell souvenirs.
