Göteborg in December

Welcome to the Världskulurmuseet

Cultural Leanings
It is probably fair to say that the fine city of Göteborg has more to offer in summer than winter. That said there are plenty of things to do to keep you out of trouble for a few days. For instance here I am in the Världskulurmuseet (World Culture Museum) where I spent the afternoon listening to a conference on Human Rights including speakers from the UN and Amnesty International.
The museum itself is a must see with some great exhibitions including one dedicated to young women activists from around the world who are challenging ignorance, prejudice and oppression often at great personal risk. An uplifting and inspirational place to visit. www.pushingthelimits.se/english
Barken Viking

An Unusual Place to Stay

Whenever I travel I try to find somewhere a bit different to stay and Göteborg was no exception.
On this occasion I opted for the Barken Viking is an impressive looking tall ship moored in Goteborg harbour. Its metamorphosis from coal carrier to floating hotel means it now offers four-star accommodation in a super prime location. My cabin didn’t disappoint and was nicely furnished with modern fittings and flat screen TV. Breakfast provided a good range of hot and cold food. The top deck was however largely abandoned for winter and should you plan to stay here I reckon the summer months would probably be a better option.

City Power Plant

Although unlikely to feature on the Gothenburg tourist map any time soon this apparent blot on the landscape is transformed at night by Scandinavian artistic flair for architectural lighting. In fact for those photographers in the know it appears to have become something of a favourite subject.

Uncommon view of Goeteborg. But it is interesting to read. This Viking room seems to be something special, at least for me. I remember I was once there in quite simple one and my sister stayed on the chair for a whole night, because it was nothing else:O
