I have done extensive travelling in South America and Mexico, but forgot Central America. So...

I had extra miles (American Airlines) and was able to fly free to Costa Rica in January, 2008. I spend one week in the Tamarindo area and surrounding areas. I went alone. Why not? I met so many nice locals and tourists from all over. Tamarindo is a known surf spot! Nightlife is great but don't expect much. Just enjoy a lot of reggae at night and friendly people. Watch your surroundings. During the day, its laid back. At the beach hanging out and meeting the locals. There a nicer beaches around: Flamingo and Conchal. Overall, the Ticos are very friendly. It makes you want to appreciate life. So I am going back. This time, I'll pay a few hundred for the flight, why not! Life is too short!

I travelled by bus the northern part of Costa Rica known as Guanacaste. Beautiful landscapes. The weather was quite dry and warm. Perfect beach weather.
The landscapes were very picturesque and colorful. It is so laid back! The people everywhere said hi!
The northern part of Costa Rica is known for the Rodeos. Its the land of the Cowboys.

Can't wait to go to Jaco and Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, in April, 2008!!! Another location in Costa Rica known for great beaches, tropical rainforests, and lovely people. I have no regrets so going back. Yes, travelllng alone, but now I have friends there who welcome me back.

Okay, I did go back and had a blast! I did not like San Jose very much, but did like the outskirts. I visited the Poas Volcanoe which was well worth it.
I took the bus to JACO which was less than $5 for the ride. It was nice to see the sunsets. The city is small and there are a lot of business. Too many prostitutes at night so you need to be bit careful. I was okay at night, never got bothered by anyone but I was with a TICO friend!

The beauty of it is to see the climate change!!

Going back in July 08..can't wait again. It is a ver special place to go to !!

I returned in July, 08. Mainly to visit a friend and hang out around San Jose and Alajuela. I love the small towns...the people are friendly and hospitable. This time I hung out at places the locals go. Mainly the tico bars, restaurants, shopping malls.....
I did go to Punta Leon by Jaco...for the day. I took a whole day tour from 6 am to 7 pm.....great adventure. Saw cocrodiles, tasted delicious coffee, and went to a beautiful beach!

The sunsets in Costa Rica, near the beach are amazing. People flock the beaches just to see them. Of course the not so touristy ones are better.

This was my first lonely night in Tamarindo. I made friends with Carlos, the reception guy who assured me i would be fine! I had a room with an ocean view. The hotel only had 8 rooms. The staff was very friendly and I did not have any concerns. The owners are French. The location is great.
