Stuttgart is a nice place to live. It's close to Switzerland (about 3 h), to France (2 h) and to the Black Forest. It houses the headquarters of global companies like Bosch, DaimlerChrysler and Porsche.
Nevertheless, to be sincere, if you are just for a very short time in Europe or in Germany, I don't think there is much to be seen here as a tourist. At least if I compare to other cities in Germany like Berlin, Hamburg or Munich.
Mainly, if you in the downtown you can see most of the city's attractions. The palace, the shopping street, the church...and at night, the pubs. They are all at the city centre.
If you are interested in cars, very interesting is the Mercedes (DaimlerChrysler) Museum. Porsche offers also its museum. But it's really not worth going there. It's just a small room, where you cannot even see a real car. There is a shop where you can buy things with the Porsche logo, but you can see much more Porsche cars at the shop, not at the museum.
To see castles or more 'typical' german houses, I would go to Ludwigsburg or Esslingen. They are both cities very close to Stuttgart.
At the Tourist Information Centre you can get all the information you need regarding transportation, hotels, theatre and sightseeing. It's very close to the train main station (Hauptbahnhof), so you can't get lost. |
