I visited Cape Town in November 2004. Very friendly people, beautiful landscapes, delicious food and good wine. Just the security is a little bit worrying. But people from Cape Town say, that the city is much safer than Johannesburg. If you don’t have much time, save at least 4 days for Cape Town. Cape Town itself offers many beautiful spots (Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, beaches, Victoria and Albert harbor) and is close to Cape Point (where the Indic Ocean and the Atlantic meet), many vineyards (wine route), Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela spent many years of his life) and Simon’s Town (penguin city). And if you just want to relax, you have a wide range of options along the coast. And for sport, there are a lot of hiking routes available there. A very popular sport among the South Africans is golf. There are many golf fields all over the country. It is a big city and you can find everything there.
If you go to the tourist information, you will also see the chance to do safari somewhere close to the city. But if you are staying longer and have the opportunity to visit Kruger Park, this is the right place for it! (more details in the Kruger Park page) Most of the people speak English, so there is no difficulty in this aspect. |
