Cheyenne is a great place to live.....if you like small towns, friendly folks, and rush-hour traffic that lasts only for several minutes or so. When I was retired from the Air Force Reserve upon reaching 60, I knew that it was time to unpack my bags, and put down roots somewhere. But where? I knew that there were several places that I did not want to live. Miami, DC, Los Angeles, and most places along the east coast had too much traffic to deal with. Other cities, with a high-crime rate, were not even considered. The Midwest, where I was born and raised, and, despite its many down-to-earth, friendly people, seemed to be too humid in the summer for me. Cheyenne seemed to be the answer.
Like the many retired military people who are coming into this area, I like living here because of the proximity of F.E.Warren AFB, on the edge of town. Housing is still affordable, as is automobile insurance. Due to an abundance of open space in the state of Wyoming, the suggested speed limit driving here is 75 miles an hour. A not-so-well-kept secret is that it does get windy from time to time.
Politically, Cheyenne is rather conservative. Yet, one or two Liberals have discovered the benifits of living here....and enliven the discussions on the local talk radio station.
For those who need to visit larger cities from time to time, Denver is approximately two hours south of town.
While Cheyenne is located on a high plain, mountains are found a little further to the west.
Well...........it does snow a little during the winter! You can learn to enjoy it, after a while.
