"Volgograd Hotels-Other Notes" Volgograd by CharltonAthletic

The Volgograd Hotel is in the centre of the City, a very old building with outside walls about a metre deep. Probably the best in the City.
If you have a room on the second floor be aware that people maybe walking past your room to get to the main facilities of the hotel, which are, The Restaurant, Snooker/Pool bar Cafe, Business centre.
Its a good clean Hotel with Character. The Food is good, Breakfast Buffet is not so bad (Better than the Intourist). The Hotel Transportation is cheap to hire, the minibus cost myself (only myself on it) £6/hour, enough time to go to the 'Monument' and return.

Side View Intourist Hotel.

I never stayed here but my friend has, he has now moved across the road to the Volgograd Hotel.

Reason being one day he was out of his room when he returned just about everything in the room had been taken. Laptop, Cellphone, clothes etc. The theft was reported to the police but they had no success in the investigation. Clearly an inside job by people who had access and knowledge of what could be taken from the room. Its a big hotel with lots of staff but nobody saw or knew anything.
If you stay here be aware no security of your posessions in your room and a possible vunerability in leaving with less than you arrived with.

Church on Monument Hill

As a tourist most people will visit the 'Monument' on Monument Hill. A statue of a woman with a sword. Despite its size I have been told she is actually Free standing, not actually anchored to the ground.
There is a remembrance hall here also with a beautiful church at the top of the hill.
A good bar/cafe to visit when staying at either hotel that has the Menu in English is 1 minute walk from the Intourist and 2 minutes from the Volgograd. Guinness beer and Hoegaarden is on tap, Pizza'a are good. Background Music is good.
Directions... Come out of the Volgograd Hotel turn right. Walk past the Intourist Hotel. 1 minute walk and cross the road. See a Bar named Manhatten, walk past this, second door further on is the bar you want. Between the 2 bars is an Optionist. I don't know the name of the bar you want as its only in Russian.

• Pros:Interesting City for a short stay
• Cons:Don't come from Nov to Jan. Always Foggy!
• In a nutshell:Better in Summer maybe?
