"Patzcuaro: A beautiful two-tone town" Pátzcuaro by jungles

Pátzcuaro Travel Guide: 43 reviews and 111 photos

Patzcuaro is lovely small town in which practically every building is painted in only two colours - white at the top with a strip of red at the bottom. This unusual colour scheme gives the city a unique look. Some people (including Nick) might find it boring, but I thought it was beautiful. Unfortunately, since Nick is the one in charge of the camera, I have no photos of these red and white buildings, but you can sort of get an idea from the buildings in the background of the above photo.

The town is very quiet and peaceful, even in the main square (pictured above). Actually the smaller square nearby, often called Plaza Chica, is much busier. This is where the minibuses drop off passengers coming into the town, and this is also where several hotels are located.

The Lago de Patzcuaro is a long walk or short taxi ride away.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Lovely architecture, the town and lake are both very pleasant.
  • Cons:Isla de Janitzio has been spoiled by tourism.
  • In a nutshell:I found this town very enjoyable for a couple of days.
