Al Wakrah is only a 15 minute drive from Doha, but it has its own distinctive small beach-town character. Al Wakrah began as a fishing village, and the port is still quite active today and is filled with wooden fishing dhows. There is a beach in the centre of town that is popular with locals, but if you are a woman and want to swim without being fully clothed, it's best if you find a more secluded beach somewhere along the stretch of coastline surrounding the town. |
