It's high time I tackle this page. It's just that Rome means so much to me I don't know where to start. Even though I don't know if I'll ever live there again, it still feels more like home than anywhere else in the world. Why is it so special to me? Well, for one it's where Nick and I met, and if our current plan holds it's where we'll get married next May. But the truth is I fell in love with Rome long before I fell in love with Nick, and I'm sure he would say the same. Its history and influence in the world is fascinating, and walking through the city as it stands today is like travelling in a time machine and visiting a new era every time you turn a corner. I could live the rest of my life in Rome and still see something new every single day. As the Romans say, 'Non basta una vita' - a lifetime is not enough. |
| | I will try to use my knowledge as a former tour guide in Rome to give insight here into some places you might not have heard so much about, as well as some extra historical background on the places you are already familiar with. Unfortunately I don't have that many of Nick's photos of Rome at my disposal right now, so for some tips I have used photos from other people; they have given their permission and have been credited. For a more complete view of Rome, there is a website here which has 360-degree views of many different parts of the city. |

| Pros: | "Amazing art, history, and architecture, plus the pasta and gelato. Oh, and the wine of course." | | Cons: | "Pickpockets, sleazy Italian men, overcharging of tourists" | | In A Nutshell: | "Oh Roma, I miss you." |

jkl1111 Thu May 7, 2009 19:33 UTC I went in 2005 after attending a wedding in Siena. I also loved the Risotto alla Pescatora! As my friend & I were enjoying our limoncello, the bride's parents walked up the street! They were on their way to their "favorite restaurant in Rome," Tony's. | cpiers47 Tue Jan 15, 2008 16:39 UTC Fantastic Tips on the Forum - thanks so much for the clear explanations. I'm going to take them when me when I head back to Rome in the spring and look forward to finally "understanding" that part of the city! Grazie Mille. | marielexoteria Mon Oct 8, 2007 12:42 UTC Thank you for these tips. | Pabro Fri Mar 9, 2007 10:06 UTC These are excellent pages on Rome, accompanied by superb historical details.
