When to go

Viking Splash
Before you go, eat lots of toffee and raw carrots to exercise your jaws so that you talk blarney and sing with the natives.Don't fret if you see donkeys with only two front legs as it's just been listening too long to it's owner. So tell everyone that you're
a) Irish and looking for your long lost cousins, the O'Tooles from Sheriff street,
b) Enjoying the oul craic

but not:
a) Trying to buy a castle in Kerry;
b) Looking for a guide for a week

The best time to go to Dublin is on Blooms day in June or during August or September to soak up the atmosphere of a big GAA game, hurling or football. We last visited Dublin when Galway defeated Kilkenny on the 19th August 2005. We watched the match on the big screen in O'Neill's pub , off Dame street. Galway were supported by a group of guys from Scotland, watching what was there first hurling match. A number of the larger bars will have entertainment either side of the big game.

Bloomsday

BLOOMSDAY marks the day in 1904 on which all the action of James Joyce’s novel Ulysses takes place. It is celebrated every year on 16th June by Joyceans all over the world. In Dublin, where the novel is set, Bloomsday celebrations go on for a week, with most of the attention on the day itself. It is traditional to dress up and go out for the day, visiting the locations of the book and taking part in readings.
Sandymount Beach

Beaches

Dublin has many fine beaches including Sandymount, Portmarnock and Sandycove
