A ferry ride from Nice

by scanos - last update: Sep 10, 2007

Getting There

Sailing into Ajaccio
We took an early morning ferry from Nice to Ajaccio - circa 4 hours. From Ajaccio, we hired a car and braved the mountain roads to our destination near PortoVecchio on the east coast.

My memories of Corsica are the beautiful beaches, particularly Palombaggio, and the rugged mountains - see tip on GR20. The other thing that intrigrued me was the Corsican language - For example, Portovecchio (Old Port) is a word which seems part Italian and French.

Mountains

Even in September the mountains can be very cold. The mountain roads are in general narrow and winding so take care whilst you're driving.
