Beograd - where 2 rivers meet Belgrade (Beograd to locals) is located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. The NATO bombing caused substantial damage to the city during the Kosovo War in 1999. The city, thanks to its rich history, is home to majority serbs, yugoslavs, montenegrins, roma, croats and muslims.
Belgrade is famous for its nightlife and there are plenty of bars and clubs open all night long. We found at the weekend a lot of shops were closed, but there were plenty of restaurants to keep us happy, as well as bars, cafes and other activities. |

| | 48 hours in Beograd......packed it all in! Arrived on train from sarajevo and figured we could easily walk to the hostel......WRONG. we went completely the wrong way, got entirely lost and had to get a taxi which drove us BACK past the train station to our hostel.......what better way to see the place!
I and travel companion immensely enjoyed the odd bombed out building, soldiers here and there and the vast ammount of fake burberry scarves and shoe shops. Loadsa shops in the modern downtown area, vast array of restaurants and lots of war artefact! I was in heaven........... |
| | What to do??? We had a good meal in El Toro Steak house, went to the old castle and played (illegally) on old war machines, tanks and guns, got chased by the security guard, went to the zoo (including the ex-rated gorilla - how much fun......see my tips for why!) went looking for shoes with a random argentinian.....got tipsy on rather large bottles of beer......walked through the streets, went to a che guevara cafe, got lost looking for the post office, had a chinese, met lots of racist serbians in the youth hostel who forced us to watch terrible serbian movies and a terrible terrible film called THE CUBE, freaked out about the train ride to romania and generally lived it up here. |
