pink strawberry smoke in prague

by catherineneill - last update: Jun 3, 2007

1.2 million inhabitants, prague is a strange mix of east and west, of former communism and capitalism. i went expecting to be somewhere like in romania, and was suprised on the second day when we found the main shopping area which was full of the usal shops, even some big chains which we dont have in belfast!! there was even a tescos. of course, that is not the reason one goes to prague, but it helped the odd time when we needed the comforts of home.

the charm of prague is amazing, i really enjoyed all the different things to see and do, see my tips. there were many tourists but things were still relatively quite cheap. i cannot see that lasting long though. If the weather is good you will really enjoy yourself. If its not you will have a greta time as well in the museums and old buildings.
jewish museum

jewish prague - josfov. lesser prague

worth a visit - jewish museum and graveyard. very moving. whilst there, go to kafkas house and pick up a copy of Die Verwandlung (i think they sell them in english too) jewish prague was named after the emperor josef II who helped the jews, it was eerie but definately worth a look.

i love old towns, and the old town here did not dissapoint. i love the square, bridge and streets. 'lesser prague' was what our leader called it, but i thought it was great. st nicholas church and charles bridge are must sees in 'lesser prague'. Old prague consists of old town square, town hall and church of our lady. the weather was pants but there were enough cocktail bars to keep us happy. and so cheap, although i hear it is getting more expensive. at nights we had a cheap meal and wasted our money in the bars. there is a nightclub with strawberry flavoured smoke coming through the floor. very classy.

castle, embassy and new prague

we also had high tea at the british embassy with the ambassador, but that was just because she went to st andrews uni too. the castle is the most popular place to visit, and the largest ancient castle in europe quite a hike if i remember BUT, and i swear this is true, i saw Ruud Van Nistelroy and a lot of other football players wlking about. I swear.
new prague is recently built, i was amazed at the modern shops i saw there. although its not THAT new (1348!) and the welceslas square should be visited.
