Land of the Sea In the North-west corner of France you will find Brittany - known to the Celts as Armorica - the land of the sea; and one of the most beautiful parts of France. It has a spectacular coastline, beautiful medieval towns, pristine beaches, picturesque fishing villages at every turn, majestic cliffs, thousands of tiny bays and inlets and no shortage of celtic history. Its about the size of Belgium with a population of almost 3 million. |
Gulf du Morbihan On the south coast of Brittany lies Morbihan (meaning Little Sea in bretan) with over 800km of beautiful coastline. The gulf is connected to the Atlantic by a narrow channel only 1km across which leads to the inland sea which is dotted with hundreds of islands - about 40 of which are inhabited. From Vannes you can take a boat trip to explore some of them. This part of Brittany is stunningly beautiful, medieval towns with half-timbered houses, half-hidden coves and beaches to explore, bars and cafes to try the local crepes and cider - I just love it here. We camped around here several times when the kids were young and is a perfect place to be with young (or old!) children... |
Some of my favourites... There are countless wonderful places to explore and experience - too many to mention here but check under my tips for further details on this beautiful part of France. |
