Back to one of my favourite cities. This was my 5th visit and I'm as in love with the place as I ever was... Nice to sleep in a bed this time (as a penniless traveller in the 80's it was church doorways... you always got moved on from the station!... Walking through Venice covered in pigeon poo to get a shower was not so good though...pigeons like church doorways at night too!. This is a city where you just have to tuck the map away and follow yr nose... try the 1st left, 2nd right etc approach to see the real venice......its easier than you'd think to avoid the hordes. |
| | There can't be too many places where, as you leave the railway station, you see the city laid out before you..... this is the view from the railway station steps....a good place to get chatting to other backpackers when leaving/arriving. |
| | Venice on a budget? This is not exactly the cheapest place to visit but if you're on a tight budget then check out my tips....you don't have to be loaded to have a wonderful time in Venice. |

Nice Picture. | Rhondaj Sat Aug 26, 2006 23:07 UTC Yes, I agree, put away the map and take turns playing follow the leader. | alza Thu Jul 27, 2006 16:43 UTC Al Portico was no doubt more comfy than IN the portico of birdshit church haha. I only had a night and a day in Venice but I saw it the way you recommend. It's a beautiful memory :) |
