Once in a while the locals dress up to battle and fight. Fight to find out who the winner is the O'Briens or the Fitzpatricks.
The looser pays the first round.
The event takes place at Bunratty Castle at irregular intervals. Take the aircoach bus from Limerick to Shannon for going their. For car drivers its on the N18. |
| | John Kings Castle Last admission to King Johns Castle is at 5pm. It closes at 6. From the town center to the castle its about 10 minutes. With St. Marys Cathedral and the Hunt Museum as in between stops.
In general I can say that Limerick is a typical Irish city with Castle, Cathedral, Museum, shopping mile and pubs.
It's good for a day trip. |
| | River Shannon Like all big Irish towns, Limerick is located on the confluence of a river into the sea. In this case its the Shannon river. With John Kings Castle on the right side and Thomond Bridge on the background.
On a day with sunny spells :) it's nice to stroll along the quays. The tourist information office is located at the Arthurs Quay Park.
If you're lucky you can watch the Shannon Rowing Club doing their exercises. http://www.carrickrowingclub.com/ |
