Rain can make riding hard August can bring typhoons. Even without these, a normal August rainstorm can make riding difficult, so we often use our (very) little car if we know we are going where there is little traffic. The drive along the Nakdong is always a pleasure. It is a rural area, no cities, lots of farms, kids swimming in the river, nothing to attract a lot of tourists and not a major road. The car is good for this. The drive begins for us in Cheonan by going the wrong direction-north- to Hwy 34 a bit north of Jiksan. Following that road will take you through a few cities until you get through the farm area and the road flattens, straightens and signs start mentioning Pusan. Break right and head for the Expressway to come back to Cheonan. |
| Let winter come, we will still be warm inside |
Kochu --peppers drying. While you can see peppers drying just about anyplace they won't be ran over, you don't often see them drying in parking lots as at this service station. |
Lazy Summer days The lake behind a dam is summer home to hundreds of these small houseboats. People from the cities come here on weekends for a few hours of peace and quiet. The real quiet is determined by how much mosquito repellant you brought with you. To the Korean, the croak of the bullfrogs introduced by accident is horrible. To me (now us since Kwang learned that frog legs are really good to eat) the sound is music and getting permission to hunt the frogs is easy. Not only am I welcomed, but some of the boat people are so intrigued, they offer to pole their boats around the lake, allowing me to collect more of the tasty critters. The real thrill always comes when I offer my host a nice bunch of frog legs all ready for the pan. I haven't had one of them jump off the boat, but The looks of abject horror as they back away politely saying no thanks makes the trip more memorable. |

| Pros: | "There is very little personal crime here and physical assaults on foreigners are nearly always by other foreigners" | | Cons: | "The average Korean male is so immature that it is dangerous to drive here. The women are much better drivers." | | In A Nutshell: | "Don't expect Western values. This is Asia in spite of the western clothes" |
