As we approached the Lake Tekapo area we noticed lots of lupins growing on the sides of the roads. At first it was just one or two clumps, and then there were whole fields full of them - it was amazing to see. When we arrived in Lake Tekapo, we parked near the church of the good shepahrd and walked up to the lake. Lupins were growing everywhere right down to the lake shore. I had seen the postcards of this, but never expected to see it - it was amazing. |
| | Airtour over Mt.Cook We looked around the few shops in Tekapo and checked out the airtours. There was one for helicopters and another for planes. The helicopter rides are more expensive than the planes. We chatted to the staff of the helitours and they told us that there was bad weather on its way and they weren't sure if they would be flying again that day. So we went to the Air Safari's place and they told us that they might be able to squeeze one more flight in before the bad weather came. They told us that the weather would definitely be bad tomorrow, so it was now or never! We booked and drove up to the small airfield. The weather held out, and we had an amazing trip. It was a bit bumpy in places, but we flew around Mt.Cook and over the glaciers that we would be hiking up towards in a few days time when we would be on the west coast. It was a great experience and I would recommend this to everyone who visits Lake Tekapo. |
