The Village of Grignan

The village of Grignan is a beautiful village dominated by the chateau de Grignan, which was the home of the Marquise the Sevigne, a well known character in French history. It is located about midway between the cities of Lyon and Marseilles, in Drome Provencal. The village is surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields.

The madam de sevigne

Madam de Sevigne is well known in France for the letters that she wrote to her daughter while she was in the royal court. Her letters have been used by historians for constructing historical facts on life in the royal court.

In and around Grignan

Grignan is a village for romantics and those looking for a peacefull holiday. None of the usual tourist traps are in evidence here, and there is not much in the way of entertainement for children. If you are looking to discover a bit about the history of France then this is the place to visit, and the well known historical city of Avignon is only a 45 minute drive away.
The village is surrounded by lavender fields and vineyards and night markets are held during the summer, when many of the locals dress up in historical costumes. Lazy days of nice long walks were the main attraction for us, even though there are quite a few larger attractions within easy driving distance.
The village is a perfect base point to discover the drome and Provence.
