I laugh at myself ..... 5 years ago, I was staying at a no star hotel with no bathroom and now I'm staying in this 4-star hotel with a posh name just about
10 min walk to Harrods..... yes, with my own bathroom as well :)
Not only that, the price for one night probably can get me 3 nights in an ultra posh hotel in KL. Nevermind, this IS London and considering that the location is near to Knightsbridge and a stone's throw to
Gloucester tube station, the rate seemed reasonable.
The hotel lobby was quite simple, one end was reception and the other end was a small lounge with a fireplace. There are 215 rooms at the Vanderbilt London hotel and each room has a warm classic English ambiance. I suppose the hotel used to be different blocks of houses which explains the different staircase which takes you to different sections of the hotel. There is one lift which is located at the end of the building & a bit of a way to walk to. Plus the lift is slow and takes a while to get to your floor
The room is small (
compared to hotel rooms in Asia) which has a double bed, side tables, dressing table, fridge and a wardrobe. One lampshade by the bed had gone missing and the safe wasn't working. The bed was comfortable enough and bathroom was satisfactory. My friend said the room was "bigger" than another place she had been to (I cannot imagine!) so I suppose room size is pretty good.
Unique Qualities: Location is great because it's near Gloucester Station, Knightsbridge, other shopping areas and a post office for me to send those postcards to friends
