Siena's claim to fame is that it is probably the most beautiful city in Italy. It is located on 3 hills and still has many of its buildings & roads built with rich red bricks hundreds of years ago
It seems to me that the town planner did a pretty good job then because which ever way you walk on the cobblestone streets, they will lead you back to Siena's main square, Piazza del Campo. The Piazza is also the site of the "crazy horse races" of "the Palio" held twice a year
I came to Siena on a day trip but left me wanting more, probably to stay here for a day or three. |
| | The legend of Siena If you look at the town's emblem ~ a she-wolf suckling the infants’ Romulus and Remus, you may think of Rome's origins as well. Legend has it that Siena was founded by Senius, son of Remus (Romulus' brother)
You can find this emblem in many parts of the city. |
