City of a million motorcycles? Ho Chi Minh City or formerly known as Sài Gòn is the capital of Vietnam and is also its largest city. Situated along the Mekong River, it doesn't take you long before you can see that despite being independent of the French, there are still many French influences left in this wondrous city
Most historical buildings are designed in the French-European style, from the Notre Dame Cathedral to the City Hall. Even the recent apartment buildings are built with similar styles. Street vendors still sell the jambon & french bread sandwiches (Saigon style of course) and you might bump into someone who speaks French
Another thing that you CANNOT ignore is the motorcycle madness that goes on the streets of Saigon everyday. Motorbikes as far as the eye can see but hardly anyone wearing protection helmets.
Nevertheless, Saigon or Ho Chi Minh city has left me with an unforgettable impression and I would love to return here someday soon |
