I've often stayed at the Mandarin Oriental whenever I am in KL on business, mainly because of it's proximity to my HQ plus it's easy access via the metro or Light Rail Transit which has a station at the KLCC building. This means you can arrive at the airport (KLIA), go on the ERL train, stop at Sentral and catch the LRT to KLCC & the hotel. Easy, expecially when you want to avoid the infamous traffic jams
Unique Qualities: The price is pretty good for such a posh hotel, around USD100 per night and you may or may not get a wonderful breakfast buffet. The rooms are huge, as the bed and has everything you need for a good night's sleep. The area around the hotel is also quite lovely, situated just next to the PETRONAS Twin Towers. If you're tired of the shiny malls and crowds, just escape to the KLCC park for some downtime.

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is probably one of the oldest hotel in KL and has long been a favourite amongst locals & visitors alike. It has undergone some renovations to keep up with time but still maintains the same Shangri-La quality that has been expected of the hotel chain. Located in the corner of Jalan Sultan Ismail & Jalan P Ramlee, the hotel is close to the major nightspots and a 10 min walk to KLCC. The rooms are pretty spacious and comfortable, complete with all the modern amenities. Plus, the hotel is surrounded by lovely gardens which is a good escape from the hustle & bustle of KL.

The Pan Pacific KLIA is a 5-star hotel located adjacent to KLIA main terminal building, about 10 minutes walk from Level 2. It is convenient especially for those with early departures, late arrivals or have a few hours on transit. There is a lounge where you can enjoy a drink or a meal while listening to music or watch the latest sports news. The restaurant serves a hearty breakfast and includes a selection of local and western fare in its menu. The rooms are quite big, complete with the basic facilities including high speed internet and departure information is available via the TV channel. The beds are comfortable and fitted in white sheets & duvet. If you find the walk to the hotel a little tiring, there is a complimentary buggy service that shuttles guests between the airport main terminal building and the hotel. The hotel is very popular with guests coming for the Sepang F1 Grand Prix, so expect room prices to be double and overbooked during this season

The Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur is one of the Luxury Collection hotels in the Starwood chain. Therefore, you will expect 5-star service and facilities. I was fortunate enough to have stayed on the executive floor with its huge rooms and bath. Everything is spelled luxury and it shows in their rooms & furnishings and of course fabulous views of the city It is situated along Jalan Sultan Ismail, which is a bit far off from the major shopping malls or night spots but there is a nightspot called the Asean Heritage Row which is within walking distance. Otherwise, you can enjoy in the hotel's lounge and bars which is quite good. You can either take a taxi or a monorail to the hotel. It also has a complimentary shuttle to KLCC for you your shopping trip or entertainment

The Grand Plaza Parkroyal is one I have come to many, many times in the past to the point I know the concierge & bartender by name. It has undergone a major multi-million refurbishment / upgrade to bring the hotel to the 21 century. Really, before this, it was quite run down with old style rooms and funky smells. Once, the plumbing got so bad, I didn't have water for a whole day. It's saving grace was it's great location smack in the middle of the Golden Triangle with major shopping center and popular night spots as neighbours After the major makeover, it has metamorphasised into a beauty worthy of its place. The rooms have totally changed from zero to zen. Clean & modern is the theme of the rooms. The weird thing about the regular rooms is that only the shower & toilet is in a separate room. The bathroom sink is part of the bedroom so your partner can catch you brushing your teeth from the bed! Nevertheless, for the new look and location, it's a great place to stay ☺
Unique Qualities: I've always been happy with the restaurants here especially the Chatz Brasserie and Parkroyal Grill which have always been popular
