Mac Mac Falls This waterfall was originally a single stream, but gold miners blasted it with dynamite to divert the river in an attempt to work the rich gold-bearing reef over which it plunges. Many of the miners were Scottish, and therefore the camp was named Mac-Mac. |
| Building at Pilgrim's Rest |
Pilgrim's Rest A living musuem - the entire town has been declared a national Monument - taking the visitors to the day of old Transvaal Gold Rush. |
The Three Rondavels The ‘three rondavels’ because the rock formation resembles 3 traditional ‘Round Houses’. |
Bourke's Luck PotHoles Where the Blyde River ("river of joy") and the Treur River ("river of sorrow") meet, water erosion has formed these ‘potholes’. The Potholes were named after a gold digger, Tom Burke, who staked a claim nearby. Although his claim did not produce a single ounce of gold, he correctly predicted that large gold deposits would be found in the area. There's lots more pictures of these places in my travelogue |
