This is a not a place where the map is entirely helpful, because just when you think that you have it all worked out, you turn down a street and you are lost again. However, that is the great thing about Venice, and it is also where you learnt the most about what makes Venice tick. Turn down a street and you see the morning garbage collectors picking up the daily rubbish. Take another turn along the waterway, and see a hundred computers and other freight being unloaded from a flat bottomed boat. And take another wrong turn which can lead to some wondrous discoveries, like the wine glass player heard in a tiny courtyard trying to promote his CD.
