Growing up in nearby Nevada, I have visited Bodie a few times. Each time, it never fails to impress me. The hardships that the pioneers lived through and suffered with are impressive.

In today's day and age it is sometimes hard enough just to get to Bodie for a visit. But what about in the winter storms in 1880's when supplies were running low, houses were cold and drafty and the nearest town was at least a two day hike through the snow?! Just makes you appreciate what you have now even more.

Pros and Cons

Pros:The entire town is in excellent condition and maintained well.
Cons:There is no paved walkways, so particularly with rain and snow, the ground will be soft. Wheelchairs only on fair weather days.
In a nutshell:A prime example of the iconic American ghost town, in perfect condition
