"Bran and Vlad" Bran by DSwede

Bran Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 9 photos

The Castle of Bran is a small castle, which was originally built in 1377 to guard the mountain pass to Brasov, but later became famous because it was for a time, a summer residence to Vlad the Impaler. It is a small castle, perched on a small rock pinnacle which overlooks the small river which flows down from the pass. It is a small castle, with a labyrinth of passages and rooms, but it was in good condition and appeared to be of formidable strength, but humble in size.

If you want the "Real" Dracula's castle, you will have to visit Poienari Citadel.

Take a look at some of my general observations of Romania.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:The castle's poignant style is very memorable and impressive.
  • Cons:The tourist shopping gauntlet is unavoidable.
  • In a nutshell:A must-see, but only requires a half day visit.

Another gorgeous page about your adventures in Romania. We found Bran a bit touristy but still well worth a visit.

Bran Castle is poorly maintained imho. But still a nice place to visit. With a little mention: the name is Vlad (no double "d")
