"Iconic Waterways, Plazas and Castles" Gent by DSwede

We came here primarily as a side trip from Brussels because my g/f wanted to visit the Dr Guislain Psychiatric Museum. But opportunity to explore the city was definitely exploited and we casually walked the city from the train station and the massive bike parking lot to the noted museum and everywhere in between.

Modern meets antique

I particularly enjoyed Gent. Its small but quite varied. The historic quarter along the rivers yield some truly iconic images of Belgium. The Castle, the Cathedrals, etc. all add some extra character to the city.

• Pros:City is small for those who like to walk, but transit is easy for those who don't.
• Cons:Good weather brings big crowds.
• In a nutshell:A mandatory stop if you make it to Belgium, even if only for a day.
