Upon first arriving, I went to the job site in Treviso, just north of
Venice. Same as many cities here, Treviso is an ancient walled city. Some of it was destroyed in WWII, but much is still in tack. It was claimed to be an impenetrable community, having its wall survive for nearly 1000 years. The ancient city center was built straddling a river, with about four forks splitting, then converging again on the city's south edge. Old cobble stone streets and bridges connect the little islands with buildings build right to the river banks. Even some water wheels can be seen turning under the currents even though the mechanical workings of their mills have been long since removed.
I had to come up to Treviso once a week to check in on the project from where I was staying in
Ravenna. Fortunately I could pick the day myself and often took advantage of the weekends as I wanted.
