I only visited the small boarder city of Kawthoung for one day and night while getting my Visa processed (entered by boat from Thailand).

This city served as our entry point to the Burmese waters where a group of us dove off of a liveaboard for 8 days. We dove off of several islands, but did not again set foot on solid ground.

The town is relatively small and survives mostly off of fishing and some local trading. There are enough foreigners that come by to get entry Visas that the locals do not stare (too much), but you will no doubt be watched with curious eyes.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Here you will definitely see locals going about their daily lives.
  • Cons:Outside of the temple, there is no much more to do.
  • In a nutshell:It is far enough off the beaten path that tourists are hypnotising to the locals.
